brass, rubber ball, steel pin, steel brass plated thumbtacks, 110 x 110 x 30mm, 2025.
‘When looking for material, it is non-precious and often overlooked objects that draw inspiration to create. The accessibility of these items give way to a transformation into a new form and shape. My inspiration struck from a steel thumbtack, coated in brass. the use of silver as status in its valued materiality is widely utilized. The creation of this artwork challenged the idea of preciousness by using items that may mimic this, but in truth be common objects. The work has allowed me to expand beyond my understanding of value in materiality and further my experimentations within my metalsmithing.’
