‘With the rising cost of silver; my body of work seeks to celebrate the unique metallurgic properties of other metals such as the malleability, ductility and surface treatments that copper provides, the warmth that bronze offers and the strength and lightness of titanium in forming structural and mechanical bonds. These are attributes that silver cannot always achieve. I also seek to further explore narratives in contemporary jewellery and object making by expanding my practice to include larger scale sculptural forms and to also add colour to my pieces through the ancient art of enamelling.’
Hayley Diep is a Melbourne-based silversmith who creates whimsical sculptural pieces to adorn the body or decorate your space. With respect to the art of traditional handmade craftsmanship, this carries throughout her body of work. Hayley uses ancient techniques such as lost wax carving to create contemporary designs reminiscent of something, either a memory or concrete familiarity, with a touch of playfulness. Clean lines are often paired with soft curves and organic textures in her practice. Each piece is
handcrafted with intention, deep-rooted in symbolism, and made to last many lifetimes.
