Selection of material explorations of Gingerbread

gingerbread, brass wire, copper wire, found biscuit tin, 300 x 250 x 80mm, 2026.

‘Silver is a beautiful material I would like to work with more often, if i could, its price however, is a major hurdle in my way. With the absence of silver in my practice, I’ve experimented with other materials, but find in turn that my knowledge on the material qualities of silver is far lower than that of other metals. I believe there’s a difference in knowing what the materials properties are and experiencing them and experimenting with them myself.’

Alexandria Owen is a Melbourne-based contemporary artist whose practice centres on jewellery and objects. Her work primarily focuses on experimenting with alternative materials and their usage alongside metal. She strives to make jewellery with a sense of play and whimsy, in hopes of instilling the wearer with feelings of happiness and joy.
