I am, predominantly, a figurative painter so this still life appears very different to both my own practice and perception of what a still life truly is. I painted in my lounge room, facing the kitchen where a green bag full of groceries lay on the counter, placed down the colours as a map and then a lemon, the forefront. I stared at it for a long time, trying to figure out how to approach the rest of the groceries, but the lemon seemed so still amongst the chaos of colours. I need the stillness right now.
