This is a little painting of my bedside table at the moment. One of the lovely things keeping our days in lockdown bearable has been the ritual of walking up to the coffee shop with my son and getting a takeaway. The fresh air does us good and it divides the day for us, signalling the end of morning, because when we get home we have lunch together, then he has a nap and I paint. On the walk is a house with a beautiful hedge of daphne in full bloom and I have been keeping a vase of it next to my bed, I’ve been gulping big breaths of it’s heady fragrance as I lie down, and when I wake in the night (which I seem to do a lot at the moment). It is nostalgic and soothing and I’m so grateful for it right now.
