Monica Vecchiotti

14-27 Sept

Please join us for the opening celebration Thursday 17th September 6-8pm

Monica Vecchiotti is a Melbourne-based ceramic artist working across wheel throwing, hand building, and sculpture. Her work layers coloured stains, underglaze and oxides beneath glazes that mute, drip and weather the surface, building pieces that feel nostalgic, yet uncanny, like a memory distorted by time and feeling.

Her practice whimsically draws on Baroque ornament, Italian heritage, Roman surfaces, mythology and mysticism. Faces recur throughout her vessels and sculptural forms, some barely visible, some a little haunting, each concerned with the same question: what gets kept, what gets distorted, and what gets left out, each time we remember something?

Monica has been practising ceramics for eight years and is the founder of Amfora Studio in Abbotsford. She is a member of Craft Victoria and the Australian Ceramics Association.
