Cosmetic surgery has been a controversial topic among feminist debates. One group believes it is a way for women to transcend and/or transform female embodiment. However, as I researched female images on social media, my doctoral research revealed that many young women undergo cosmetic surgeries to mould their faces to the ideal of society.

For my works, I am both artist and model. I have experienced the transformation of myself in the artwork from a subject to an object to show how powerful the social standards of female aesthetics are in erasing a woman’s and women’s differences and turning us into the same “products” under some particular standards through non-therapeutic cosmetic surgery. I was also inspired by the news of women who underwent failed cosmetic surgery procedures to make these paintings.
