This body of work is a reflection of personal and sentimental experiences, showcasing past histories, character and emotion through design and technique. The nature of these pieces pay homage to Curtis’ birth place, the south west corner of Australia, with the use of native djarraly (jarrah, eucalyptus marginata), which then becomes a vehicle for the bold minimalist approach to his work. The additions of knit (contributed by and in collaboration with 2am close, Taylor Brooks) form organic, revolving details which weave through the timber and its grain. Here, the composition is a nod to the circularity of life forms - prompting associations to land surfaces, DNA, and mycelium. Working with the idea of the home and craft practice, the pieces express themselves through relatable, somewhat characterised bodies for the home.
