This still life with fish and oysters is a feast for the senses. The reds and vibrant oranges are strong affirmations of plenty and recall the sensuous paintings Frida Khalo did of open fruits and food which celebrated passion and life.
Our young friend Marshall brought us round a feed of locally caught fish and gathered oysters to give us a treat when we were at first in isolation. I work from my studio in Tathra on the south coast of NSW and this gift was truly appreciated. For us 2020 has been a horror year - first bushfires, then drought and now the Covid pandemic. The painting is both a celebration and a thanks to our young friend.
