By The Rainbow Project Expression Australia

3 - 16 OCTOBER

The Rainbow Project is an ILC funded project which aims to build the capacity of individuals in the Deaf LGBTIQA+ community. The project’s main objectives are to establish and develop peer support mechanisms, deliver social events and ensure access to information about mainstream LGBTIQA+ issues in Auslan. Part of this work is to also build partnerships with existing LGBTIQA+ organisations and services to improve accessibility and awareness of the specific needs of Deaf LGBTIQA+ people and communities.

The project carries out the procuration and preservation of Deaf LGBTQIA+ history in Victoria and Tasmania, as well as curating social events and LGBTQIA+ awareness within the organisation and in the Deaf community.

This exhibition is presented in the form of a timeline, dating from the 1950’s through until the present day. On display are photographs, event flyers, flags, clothing and other paraphernalia that document social events, parades, and conferences.
