Chromatic Sensations of Spaces Between Spaces

Anthea Vayonitis

5 - 10 March 2024

An emerging contemporary artist, Anthea Vayonitis works with dance and meditation practices to create gesturally embodied immersive paintings. ‘Chromatic Sensations of Space between Spaces’ is an exploration of lyrical abstraction and sensation in the context of the metaphysical energies found in nature. Abstraction, colour, and sensation are explored through a painterly, gestural, and intuitive process. Each mark informs another, and the destination finds itself in the process. Vayonitis is creating a personal lexicon that channels her connections with these energies. The spaces between oneself and the materials, speak to each other in the present moment. Thus allowing the painting to paint itself through the extensions of bodily movement. As the paintings progress, there are apparent activities and key spots stimulating the work. Anthea is particularly interested in the spaces between these painted moments and how the senses are responding to these pockets of time and space.
