MATTERS OF MATERIAL

In the digital era, as the world around us becomes flattened into screens, there is a growing yearning for the tactility of physical objects. Whether it's the way paint glides onto the canvas, the sensation of clay between fingers, the journey a pencil takes across paper, what happens when process and materials are the driving force and meaning of an artwork? In this way of working, the artist becomes a facilitator, offering agency to the materials to actively shape and influence the artistic process. This breaks down boundaries between form and content, perhaps revealing that meaning is intrinsically interwoven with materials and not merely conveyed through them.
