REFLECTIONS

Mark Bo Chu

27.06.23 - 01.07.23

REFLECTIONS is an exhibition of inherited images. Chu’s role of painter-as-curator brings together unrelated photos submitted by online followers, making them anew. This series questions the duty of a painter’s focus, offering the choice of subject matter to the population at large. Yet shared themes arise, of emotional ephemera and kinship, of meditations and good times. Unctuous and gritty, Chu’s command of paint promises artworks that connect the eye, mind and heart.

Mark Chu’s artwork has been featured in Vice, The Australian, ABC News, SBS News, and The New York Times. A painter of people and streetscapes, he was Highly Commended for the 2022 Lester Prize. Chu regularly publishes research in complexity scientist, and was a past writer for The Good Food Guide. Chu has recorded as a piano soloist with the MSO and WASO, and holds an MFA from Columbia University.
