Tara-Rose Kirkpatrick - To Lie In The Bed We Made
old bed frame, old pillowcase, found nails, natural dyes (salt bush berry and pomegranate), cotton thread, 103cm height x 53cm width x12cm depth, 2025
To Sleep In The Bed We Made critiques the notions of permanence and decay embedded within human psyche. Humanity is destroying this planet, rebuilding in ignorance to the waste we create. Beds and pomegranates, symbols of comfort, fertility, love, and lust, now hang in disrepair. Through unrefined form, this work confronts the illusion of comfort that we construct in a world where comfort is diminishing. Natural dyes, applied without mordants, may or may not fade over time, symbolising the natural beauty of the world that us as humans slowly wash out.
