No Comply Festival: 2008 ARTIST LIST [November 2008]
No Comply 2008 will be at No Vacancy, featuring over 100 artists.
Australia’s unique street and contemporary arts community has gained prominence over the last decade, being described by many as an international leader in street art and culture. A reputation earnt through the individual talents of the artists and the support of Australia’s unique art community, a network of artists sharing ideas, motivation and contributing to the endless calendar of
projects, exhibitions and initiatives designed to develop and explore the complex and distinct local dialect of art which has been developed over the years.
No Comply is proud to be a part of this language, it is an annual exhibition which started as a small group show with an all-local line-up and which over time along with the community that it has set out to
promote has developed far beyond any initial expectations. No Comply has become an unprecedented world-class group exhibition featuring legends and emerging world leaders from the entire spectrum
of contemporary art and street culture. By using skateboards as the canvas, No Comply is also a commentary on the current state of contemporary art, a time when most artists draw their inspiration from a previously dismissed library of
references and in turn contribute equally to these outlets. Multimedia, graphic novels, skateboarding, graffiti, street art, tattoos, animation and computer games are now more than ever respected parts of
contemporary art. No Comply celebrates this fact.
With 170 individual pieces of art by 80 artists representing a wide variety of disiplines and fields, No Comply 2008 is an unique snapshot of an important moment in time for the international art community
with a focus on Australia’s growing global role.
