LOREAL FASHION WEEK: [20th MARCH 2009]
OPENING FASHION WEEK

TRIMÁPEE OVERVIEW

Trimápee- say; (Trim – mar – pea) Trimápee is an Australian based fashion label with designs that define eclectic artistic thinking. Unique collections with conceptual themes make each Trimápee garment a product of character expression, rather than the attempt of mimicking mainstream fashion. With thematic and historical influences, Trimápee aims to transform the humble wardrobe into a means of expression.

Like the joker from a deck of cards, Trimápee does not conform to any suite. Neither clubs, spades, diamonds nor hearts, Trimápee is the joker who stands alone but whose versatility extends to replace all other suites in a deck. A versatility created through its juxtaposition of styles to fashion a new look for any occasion- for work or for play- but demanding expression.

As this new look finds its way into the realm of mainstream, Trimápee will aspire to reinvent and recreate itself again and again. THE

DESIGNERS:

Trimápee comprises of two designers; Peter Strateas and Mario-Luca Carlucci. The pair derive from different design disciplines, which when combined, creates a fresh unique outlook toward men’s fashion. They share a fine arts background, with a firm interest in life drawing, painting, art installation, sculpture and print-making. Mario-Luca’s interest in sculpture and human form lead him to study a bachelor of Design, Industrial Design, at RMIT University. Peter’s interest in creative writing and printmaking lead him to Study Bachelor of Design, Communication Design also at RMIT.

Despite their young age of 23 and 22 respectively, the boys behind the label thrive on learning through their experiences. Both home to Australia’s creative hub, Melbourne, which works as the perfect creative environment for young designers. In it’s labyrinth of hidden streets and alleys, Melbourne cradles and nurtures its many young aspiring designers. This city was the ideal platform for the birth of Trimápee.

“The Institution” is an interactive fashion/ art show and installation exploring the theme of the “carbon copy kid culture” we live in, and asking the question; for the love or for the money? Has the outsider now been pushed outside of the circle so for that he finds himself in the middle again? The Institution investigates the cause and effect of art and fashion in a society where the minority can become the majority overnight, and the pressures of the mainstream are so suffocating the even the most strong willed succumb to survive. Are we purely giving in to survive; or are we selling the parts of ourselves that are hunted and craved? Fashion today is not only a commodity or garment, but also a lifestyle and way of life. Therefore fashion intersects with all other art forms including music, visual arts and other elements of design. We celebrate the beauty and integrity of subcultures within communities and the strength that these talents demonstrate by always evolving and forever breaking the fast-setting mould of the mundane.

The interactive fashion show will exhibit the Trimápee Autumn / Winter 09 collection entitled “The Institution”. This will be displayed in a non-conventional and exciting interactive way, that each person who visits the exhibition leaves his or her mark. The lines of fashion, art, gallery, exhibitor and audience will all be merged when Trimápee takes over the NO VACANCY Gallery to present- The Institution.
