SINGAPORE NO VACANCY:

POP UP GALLERY

No Vacancy setup a Pop Up Art gallery in Singapore over March. The first of its kind in Singapore. Finding an empty space and transforming it into a gallery. The reason of establishing No Vacancy Singapore was to give Melbourne Artists an opportunity and avenue to gain exposure throughout Asia. We hope this will help promote the Australian art scene to a wider audience and promote Australian artists.

LOREAL FASHION WEEK:

TRIMAPEE

Despite their young age of 23 and 22 respectively, the boys behind the label thrive on learning through their experiences. Both home to Australia’s creative hub, Melbourne, which works as the perfect creative environment for young designers. In it’s labyrinth of hidden streets and alleys, Melbourne cradles and nurtures its many young aspiring designers. This city was the ideal platform for the birth of Trimápee.

Street Art For Ashes:

BUSHFIRE FUNDRAISER

Melbourne’s street artists did their bit to raise funds for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal. Coming together under the banner Street Art for Ashes, many of Melbourne’s leading street artists along with those throughout Australia and abroad donated their artwork to be auctioned.

Funds were raised by an auction of street art pieces at No Vacancy Gallery on the evening of 13 March and online in the week 9 -16 of March. 75% of funds raised will go to the Red Cross and 25% towards Help for Wildlife.

Street Art for Ashes is sponsored by Sketch City, Melbourne Stencil Festival, No Vacancy, We Make Stuff Good and Mad Man Printing.

We raised over $10,000 for the cause. Great effort and many thanks must go to all the organisers.

Indoor Drive In Cinema:

SMART CAR

During the month, we converted the gallery into a Cinema:

We're recreating the drive in cinema experience but bringing it into the city, indoors and even more intimate because there will be only 7 cars per screening. And don’t worry, smart cars are like the Tardis (sorry, no Doctor Who screenings); somehow bigger on the inside than out - there's not much chance of sneaking in anyone in the boot like the old days though. There will also be a limited number of beanbags from which to enjoy the films for those who miss out on the cars.

Suit Up Show:

Deck of Cards

Featuring 19 Australian artists from Street Art, Comic, and Illustration backgrounds, the Suit Up was formed as a collaboration in the true sense of the word.

Four groups worked together to create a theme for each suit and bring stylistic cohesion to the deck as a whole. That said, each artwork is lavishly detailed, unique and stunning in its own right - playing cards have never looked so good!

Artifiction: Cinema posters.

A unique exhibition celebrating hand-painted cinema advertising from Indonesia.

opening

Indonesian billboard artists interpret film marketing graphics from all over the world onto canvas banners for local film advertising. This hand-painted practice is being rapidly fazed out as digitally printing these large cinema banners becomes a cheaper option.

Was great to have a mix of exhibitions through the space and thanks to Nicholas from Mutiny Media for organising and curating the exhibition. It was perfect timing to have this in the gallery as the MIFF (Melbourne International Film Festival) is currently running.
